Alan's First Blog

The first activity we did on Monday was watch a MindFulness for Kids video. It told us to do our work and be quiet while doing our work.  The next activity we did on Monday was do a Dragon Breath Meditation. The dragon breath meditation was to calm yourself. The next activity we did was setting goals during the crisis distance learning, for example we could set a goal for a grade like to get an A in a class. After that, we planned on how we would reach our goals.  Then, to end the day everyone that had to finish homework worked and everyone that turned in everything got to leave.

Jonah's First Blog

Today, Ms. Nakada first took attendance. Then, we read Bailey’s blog.  We wrote in our English notebooks the following:  week three: Sept. 8- Sept. 11 Agenda/Blog corrections Q.Q song The Outsiders STAR TEST  “Nothing Gold Can Stay” HW: Elements of plot for ch 8/9 of TO Quote of the week “Sometimes a breakdown can be the beginning of a kind of breakthrough, a way of living in advance through a trauma that prepares you for radical transformation" Cherrie Moraga.  After we wrote that, we then discussed what the quote of the day meant. No one answered so Ms. Nakada played crickets. Finally someone answered.  We then discussed “How do we practice self-care in times of stress/uncertainty?" People came up with a spa day :), deep breathing or playing basketball, going to the pool because it's hot, biking, moving to a positive space, time with family or a socially distant gathering, going on a walk, and listening to music.  We listened to the song of the week, it ...

Then, Ms. Nakada talks about the plot of a story and how to make a plot diagram which included the exposition, the rising action, the climax, and the resolution.

Nickolaus's First Blog

Today in class Ms. Nakada took roll and showed us our new blog. The G.O.A.T.S. Then, we took notes. Our notes looked something like this: Agenda Notebook/ Blog Set-Up Q-Q-Song What Good readers do? HW: Read and write reading journals for The Outsiders CH. 1 - 4. Due Sunday. We also discuss the quote of the week. “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make out something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Ralph Waldo Emerson We also discussed the question of the week which was “What do you hope?” A lot of the class' answers where about how they hoped for the Corona Virus to go away, or how we wish for racism and police brutality to stop. Our song of the week was “We're Going to be Friends” and it was a calming and mellow song to listen to. We related what the song was talking about to current events and how they were similar even though the song was written a long time ago. Then, we began reading our book assignment for this year which is The Outsiders . W...

Agenda Welcome to English 8! Syllabus First Day Letter HW: course outline signed / letters home due Sunday Hey Period 6! This will be a space where everyday a different student will capture what happens in class and read their blog the next day. This is our blog and my version of what we did on Friday.  Everyone logged into our Zoom class and as people came in, we changed names and pronouns to let everyone know what we want to be called.  I took attendance, and I was glad to see that I knew most of you already from sixth and seventh grade. I'm so excited to have you as my English students now! After attendance, I went over the class syllabus and talked everyone through the class expectations and rules. Then, we went over the materials we need (the tech you need to connect, a notebook, things to write with and books books).  We went over the first few units of study for  The Outsiders, Inside Out and Back Again,  and NaNoWriMo.  Next, I read my l...
